One of his competitors, Quadrozzi told the newspaper, is a mystery Manhattan developer who reportedly has the money to acquire and convert the ship, but has not yet offered a berth. Quadrozzi, on the other hand, says he has an available dock, but is still appealing to donors, developers, investors and government agencies for financial support. The Manhattan developer is reportedly looking to convert United States into a luxury hotel.
According the newspaper, the conservancy’s recent last-ditch campaign to save United States from the breakers, which raised approximately $600,000 in donations—enough to keep the liner alive well into next year—also attracted the attention of real-estate moguls across the United States.
Reports that that there are now apparently multiple parties interested in acquiring United States should also warm the hearts of supporters of another legandary ocean liner, Queen Elizabeth 2, which has been stranded in Dubai since November 2008.
