Gustav Wilhelm Wolff, born on 14 November 1834, was the “Wolff” in the famous Belfast-based Harland & Wolff shipyard. Vessels built at Harland & Wolff (which exists to this day), include HMS Belfast, Majestic (1889), Olympic (1911), and, of course, Titanic (1912).
Wolff lived until 1913, long enough to have witnessed the reports of the Titanic disaster. Below is a summary of his life, published by The Guardian on the occasion of his passing.
