Celtic had several close calls during the war: she hit a mine in 1917, was torpedoed in 1918, and eluded at least one other U-boat attack. Celtic resumed her Liverpool-New York service after the war.
On 12 December 1928 bad luck finally caught up with Celtic when she was wrecked at Roche’s Point, Cobh. There were no fatalities, but Celtic was a complete loss and she was broken up on site. The bits of wreckage were removed in 1933 (the same year White Star was folded into Cunard Line).
