On 15 July 1952 United States became the world’s fastest ocean liner.

The United States Line superliner took the Blue Riband from Cunard Line’s Queen Mary, completing a westbound transatlantic crossing in 3 days, 12 hours and 12 minutes at an average speed of 34.51 knots, a record that stands to this day and is unlikely to ever be broken by another ocean liner (although many people would be overjoyed if such a feat were ever to happen).
