Based on an analysis conducted in 2013 by Los Angeles-based Economic & Planning Systems, it appears that the task force will consider two possible plans.

The first plan includes a 14-berth mega-yacht marina, a 150-room boutique hotel, an improved events area and 15,000 square feet of ancillary retail space. This plan would also eliminate 429 parking spaces from Queen Mary’s parking lot, which currently has 1,600 available spaces.

The second plan would retain first plan’s three proposed land uses (marina, entertainment and hotel) while also adding 370 multifamily residential units. This approach would eliminate nearly all of Queen Mary’s current parking spaces, leaving only 370 available spaces.

Whether either plan is economically feasible hinges on resolving various land-use, access and parking restrictions that have kept much of the property vacant for decades, city officials told the newspaper.
