4. Caronia (1949)
Carionia (1949) was one of the first “dual-purpose” liners: designed for cruising, but also capable of transatlantic crossings during the busy summer season. By 1959 Caronia was more or less dedicated to full time cruising. In that role, she became a model for everything a cruise ship of her era aspired to be: compact, elegant, luxurious, and efficient. This is why she is still so fondly remembered today.
