7. Michelangelo
Italy’s first post war superliner, Italian Line’s Michelangelo was launched on 16 September 1962. The liner’s most impressive feature was her twin funnels, which consisted of an intricate pipework network topped by a large smoke deflector fin. Although much criticized, the design proved to be highly effective in keeping smoke off the rear decks, a long sought-after goal of ocean liner designers.
