5. Leonardo da Vinci
Designed to replace Andrea Doria in the Italian Line fleet, Leonardo da Vinci was constructed to allow conversion to nuclear propulsion at a future date. Space for a reactor was reserved midship. Leonardo da Vinci was the last of Italian Line’s liners to remain in transatlantic service, continuing on her Mediterranean route until June 1976.
