Great Britain (1845) is the world’s oldest surviving ocean liner. She was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel for the Great Western Steamship Company’s transatlantic service between Bristol and New York. Great Britain was the first to large ocean-going ship to use a screw propeller. She was also the first iron steamer to cross the Atlantic, a feat she accomplished in 1845, in 14 days. Great Britain is now a museum ship in Bristol, England. A popular attraction, her future seems secure.
