Amerika, America

America in her United States Lines livery.

Postwar, sailing for United States Lines, America remained in service until 4 September 1931, when she made her final westbound departure from Hamburg. She was then laid up in Chesapeake Bay until 1940.

In October 1940, the well-worn America was converted into an accommodation ship named Edmund B. Alexander. In 1942-43, she underwent a further conversion into a troopship, emerging with only a single funnel. She served as a trooper until May 1949, when she was again laid up. In 1957 she was sold to Bethlehem Steel for scrapping, which took place in Baltimore in 1958.
