The redevelopment announcement was made by Mohammed Al Mannaei, director of Mina Rashid DP World, operator of Port Rashid, which will continue to function as a commercial port accommodating cruise ships and other vessels.

The first phase of the marina project, reportedly set to open in 2018, will have a capacity of more than 400 boats and sailing yachts with lengths in the range of 15 to 35 metres. The second phase will be for luxury yachts berth with lengths of more than 100 metres.

Last November, DP World Chairman Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem announced that QE2 will not be scrapped and that there is a new plan for rescuing the long-idled liner.
